Acute Medicine; Clinical Cases Uncovered
Acute Medicine: Clinical Cases Uncovered combines patient cases and outcomes, drawn from real–life experiences, with reference to the curriculum for Training in General (Acute) Medicine. It provides self–assessment MCQs, EMQs and SAQs to give medical students, junior doctors, nurses and allied healthcare professionals the perfect preparation for life on the wards.
From the Author
Having worked as a consultant in Acute Medicine for over 10 years I have seen patients with many hundreds of different diagnoses. Fortunately the problems with which they presented to hospital can be categorised into a much smaller number of groups. The 22 cases selected for inclusion should encompass the presenting complaint of more than 80% of the medical patients admitted as emergencies.
I hope that readers will find this a useful book. Although originally aimed at clinical medical students, I understand that nurses, junior doctors and allied healthcare professionals working in the field of acute medicine have all found it useful. The Acute Medical Unit can be an intimidating environment for students, but is also a rich resouce for learning. I feel that this is the sort of text book which I would like to have owned as a student going onto the wards for the first time, and hope that it will help to make the first encounters with 'real clinical medicine' less daunting!
